Born in Senegal, Ibrahima Amadou Dia,  received his Bachelors degree (Maîtrise) and Masters degree (Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies) in Sociology at the University of Gaston Berger of Saint – Louis in Senegal (’98, ’99). In 2002, he obtained a Masters degree (Diplôme d’Etudes Spécialisées) in Development Studies from the Graduate Institute of Development and International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. Concentrating on skilled international migration and development, Mr. Dia completed his Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Geneva.

He is currently a researcher at the University of Geneva, where he works on issues related to global governance and health worker migration. In addition, he is a lecturer for the Master on Standardization, Social Regulation and Sustanable Development. In 2009, Mr. Dia was a visiting researcher at the City University of London and a guest lecturer at the Danish Institute for International Studies.

Mr. Dia also has experience as a research coordinator at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development in Vienna, Austria. He has served as a collaborator, advisor, and consultant at the International Organization for Migration, the Global Commission on International Migrations and the International Labour Office, the UNAIDS, and the UN Intellectual History Project. In addition, Mr. Dia has lectured widely on international migration. In addition to international migration, Mr. Dia has worked on issues pertaining to gender equality, work and family,  gender equality, fundamental rights at work, poverty reduction and social protection, HIVAIDS and child labour. He is a member of various international associations in the field of development and social sciences.
