Steffen Angenendt

Steffen Angenendt PhD., born 1958, PhD. Phil., certified political scientist, study of economic science and political science in Cologne and Berlin, 1989-1993: Research associate at the Freie Universität Berlin, research area “Work Migration, Escape Movements and Minority Politics”, 1993-2006: Research associate at the research institute of the German Society for Foreign Policy (DGAP) in Bonn and Berlin, head of the editorial office of the “Yearbook of International Politics”, 1995-2001: Lecturer at the FU Berlin, Staff member of the independent commission on immigration (Süssmuth Commission), 2001-2003: Lecturer at the Humboldt University Berlin, 2004: Staff member of the government expert group on immigration and integration (Immigration Council); 2006-2001: Senior Associate of the Foundation Science and Politics (SWP) and assistant chairman of the research group “Global Questions” ; Summer Term 2011: Visiting professor at the Institute for East Asian Studies at the University of Vienna; since 2011: exempted from the SWP to serve as an advisor on migration and development to the federal ministry of economic cooperation and development (BMZ) in Berlin. Advisor for the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the UN High Commissary on Refugees (UNHCR), the International Child Development Centre in Florence, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Geneva, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Separated Children in Europe Programme in Brussels, the Council for Asia-Europe Cooperation (CAEC), the EU-Commission as well as the National Population and Family Planning Commission in the PR China.


Research Areas:
Political demography; national, European and international migration and migration policy; climate change and security.
